CENTRED RIDING 2

Further Exploration by SALLY SWIFT

Centred riding is a way of re-educating a rider's mind and body to achieve greater balance in order to better communicate with the horse. Founder Sally Swift revolutionized riding by showing that good use of the human body makes a world of difference on horseback. Early in her work, she established what she calls the 'four basics' -centring, breathing, soft eyes and building blocks -which, together with grounding, are the main tenets of her method. When a rider learns and maintains these basics, then harmony between horse and human is possible.
CENTRED RIDING 2
Why a second book? Centred riding has continued to evolve and Swift has developed many .new concepts, complete with fresh imagery, which make her approach both rider-friendly and fun. Chapters include:
  • The Four Basics and Grounding
  • The Use of Self
  • Learning Balance and Relaxation
  • The Following Seat
  • The Horse is Your Mirror
  • Discover Shared Energy
  • Gain Extra Stability from Riding in Three Seats
  • The Joyful Canter
  • Hands That Help, Not Hinder
  • Centred Jumping

Sally Swift hardly needs no introduction as founder of Centred Riding. She wrote Centred Riding in 1985 which became one of the best-selling horse books of all time. Sally continues to teach on a limited basis in her home town of Brattleboro, Vermont.

Horseweb-UK says..
Published in hardback with excellent photographs and easy to follow diagrams and illustrations. Sally Swift explains the whole concept of centering, how to center yourself and then how to put this into action both on the ground and on the horse. So often the horses natural balance becomes spoiled or stilted by a rider who is either stiff, nervous, badly positioned, riding one sided. Becoming centered encourages the rider to become more aware of his or her body, how to balance correctly, how to feel your horse, how to relax. Become aware of your self, ride with a good use of self and your horse will come into balance. There is also a section about centered jumping and reducing pain through centered riding, for those of us who suffer from arthritis or back and other problems. There is much to be learned from this book and following the techniques so simply explained can only be a benefit to both rider and horse.
