HORSE LAW

By Julie Mackenzie

First published in 1990, HORSE LAW is a simple no-nonsense guide to the law for the horse owner as well as an initial reference book for solicitors and barristers who find themselves involved in cases concerning horses. It is also an essential book for other professionals involved in, or connected with horses whether students, instructors, veterinary surgeons, transporters or farriers.
Comprehensive in coverage, it includes a wide range of areas which can affect the horse world - theft, buying and selling, negligence, the Animals Act 1971, rights of way for riders, keeping a horse, road traffic, protection of animals from cruelty, gaming and betting and the rules and regulations of the various equine disciplines.

Julie Mackenzie has been a horsewoman all her life and has competed at many levels. Educated in the West Country and undertaking her legal studies in London, Julie Mackenzie was called to the Bar in 11978. She married a fellow barrister in 11984, has a keen interest in country life, and a sympathetic awareness of issues that surround it. Her detailed knowledge of the horse world led to a demand for her legal services in this specialized field. Julie is a member of the Equine Lawyers Association. Her three children are enthusiastic riders and have begun to compete in their own right.
