ESSENTIAL OILS FOR HORSES

A Source Book for Owners and Practitioners by CAROLE FAITH

This comprehensive guide is designed to help those who wish to know how to use essential oils on their horses and covers everything from profiles of the oils themselves, and what utensils to use, to the conditions that can be treated. Essential oils are used to treat sweet itch and other skin problems, mud fever, strained muscles and tendons, respiratory ailments, digestive and emotional problems, to ward off flies and much, much more. The guide also shows massage sequences that are easy to understand and can be undertaken by the most novice horse owner, as well as providing essential oil chemistry profiling and giving details of where you can purchase everything you would need.
In an age when the world at large is looking for less invasive, gentler routes to health and well-being for their animals, especially horses, this guide is an illuminating, thought- provoking work that should be part of every stable yard and equine home.

Carole Faith has had a lifelong love of horses but came to riding only in her late teens. Some years later, thrown in at the deep end exercising showjumpers she learnt that treating the horse with a more sensitive approach led to fewer bruises, bites and unscheduled meetings with terra firma. Carole trained as an aestheticienne in 1987 and gradually began to work more on animals than hu1Jlans, finding essential oils by fortuitous accident some years ago. Carole later qualified as an aromatherapist with the specific aim of working with horses and has also studied with Caroline Ingraham who is well known for her work in the equine sphere. Carole is married and lives on the Hampshire/Wiltshire border with five horses and three dogs where she has her own essential oil therapy practice, concentrating mainly on horses and their riders.

Horseweb-UK says..
Published in hardback this book covers a whole spectrum of essential oils and their uses. You will learn of the individual oils and their properties, how to use them correctly, what to avoid, how to store them, the dilutions required, the effects of blending different combinations of oils. The horse massage section is easy to follow with excellent photgraphs showing the different techniques and the dos and don'ts of 'hands on massage'. Even those who are not inclined towards alternative therapies will find this book fascinating and an excellent reference book (both for horse and rider!)

YOUR HORSE'S FEET

By Alison Schwabe

Number 43 in the Photographic Guide Series.
The maintainance of healthy feet is arguably the most important area of horse healthcare. Lameness is the biggest single cause of suffering and lay-off for the horse, and 90 per cent of lameness is connected with problems in the foot. 'YOUR HORSE'S FEET' provides an essential and invaluable guide to the subject and with explicit photographs, underlines the truth behind the expression 'no foot, no horse'
