SILKS & SADDLECLOTHS

By Barry Wass

Set against the thrills and spills of thoroughbred horse racing, Silks and Saddlecloths is the compelling story of Victor Barnes's attempt to rebuild his life after the most terrible loss which takes him back to his West Country roots and then plunges him deep into the dangerous world of racing intrigues and passions, of shady dealings and dopings. He buys a rogue stallion, then a steeplechaser, entered for the Grand National ... and meets Mary, his trainer's headstrong and gutsy daughter ... but can he turn his own tragedy into ultimate triumph in the Derby?

Horseweb-UK says..
Published in paperback, this book starts in Australia but is primarily set in England, especially the West country and as well as being a good story has many interesting anecdotes both about horses and places. A 'good read', you don't need to be a racing fan to enjoy this book, well recommended for the long winter nights...
